Native Plants, Native People

Who were Maryland’s First People, and how did they relate to the land around them? Students will explore the Paleo, Archaic, and Woodland Indian cultures and their advances in response to a changing environment. On a guided forest walk, they’ll learn about the importance of native plants to the food, craftwork, and medicinal traditions of indigenous peoples. They’ll also lend a hand in a traditional Three Sisters garden, practice their aim with a bow and arrow, and duck inside a wigwam at First Light Village.
