Adkins Arboretum, a 400-acre native garden 30 minutes east of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge near Ridgely, MD, seeks an experienced fundraising professional to direct the completion of its first capital campaign to expand its 30-year-old visitor’s center. The Arboretum was founded in 1980 to promote native plant conservation and sustainable landscaping practices. The new “green” center is designed to provide enlarged and attractive facilities to house the Arboretum’s robust offering of education and nature-related art programs for all ages and to accommodate growth over the next decade. The position is a full-time contract position with the option to become permanent. The Campaign Director will coordinate all activities of a team of staff and volunteers focusing on building donor relationships through multiple strategies to raise $3 million. Besides managing his or her own caseload of prospective donors, the Director will assist the team in developing personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for prospects; coordinating logistics of prospect calls; conducting research; preparing case materials and proposals; tracking next steps; completing contact reports; and following up with prospects. In addition, this position is responsible for developing and implementing appropriate communication plans for long-term donor relationships, including planned giving.
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree and 5 years of successful nonprofit management/fundraising experience. Special event coordination, donor research, marketing, writing and verbal communication, computer proficiency, and attention to detail are critical skills for this position. Capital campaign experience preferred.

Adkins Arboretum seeks a part-time seasonal Nursery Assistant to work from March 24 to October 1. The position is 12 hours per week, preferably spread over two or three days. Hours are flexible, but morning hours are required.
Must be able to lift 20 pounds, kneel and bend, and work outside in all weather, including hot summer sun. Plant care and identification experience are essential.
