The Arboretum has commissioned Bob Ortiz of Robert
Ortiz Studios in Chestertown, MD to design a bench for individuals
to donate to the Arboretum as a tribute to a loved one. Ortiz,
a self-taught woodworker of 18 years, was recognized as the 2002
Best New Designer in Fine Woodworking at the Philadelphia Furniture
Show.
When invited to create a bench for the Arboretum, Ortiz said, “It was
a tremendous opportunity to build a piece of furniture from nature for a
natural setting such as the Arboretum.” He adds, “This bench
will enhance the visitor’s experience. It will offer visitors a place
to rest, to take in the environment, and from which to move on.” For
