Adkins Arboretum Plant Sales

Adkins Arboretum holds two major plant sales each year, the first or second Saturday in May and the second Saturday in September. The sales feature a wide range of trees, shrubs, grasses, and perennial herbaceous plants, mostly native to the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Used gardening and nature-themed books and magazines are also for sale.

Members can place advance orders for plants and are invited to a "Members Only" preview day before the sale day. There is also a preview walk for the public the week before the spring and fall plant sales. Members receive a 10% discount on all plants.

Sale days can be crowded, so please leave dogs at home.

A selection of plants is for sale under the Visitor's Center pergola from May through November. By arrangement the Arboretum can assist with special orders for restoration projects or community plantings.

The Arboretum's Native Plant Catalog, for sale in the Arboretum bookstore, has horticultural, ecological, and folkloric information about many of the plants for sale.

Spring Native Plant Sale

Browse the list of plants available at the spring plant sale by downloading the Spring Plant Sale list. Members may order plants in advance before April 11. Download the order form and e-mail your order as an attachment or fax or mail in your order form. Arboretum staff and Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer your plant and gardening questions, and there will be a sale of used nature-themed books and magazines. The Arboretum’s gift shop will be open, offering books on gardening and other great gifts for gardeners.

Donations of garden books, field guides, and gardening/landscaping magazines for the used book sale are appreciated, and may be dropped off at the Visitor’s Center between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily before May 10. Proceeds from the used book sale help support the Arboretum’s library.

Plant Sale Preview Walk

Plants will not be for sale until Friday for members, Saturday for everyone, but this is a great opportunity to plan what you want to buy and to learn more about native plants. Looking for a plant for a specific need? Bring your questions and we will try to find the right plant for you.
