FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (RIDGELY, MD—October 4, 2007)

Adkins Arboretum to Sponsor 2008 Art Competition

Adkins Arboretum in Ridgely, MD, will sponsor its ninth annual Art Competition, to exhibit in February and March 2008. The theme of the competition—Discover the Wild Landscapes of the Coastal Plain—celebrates the Arboretum’s mission of conservation. The Leon Andrus Award, in honor of the Arboretum’s first benefactor, will be given to the competition’s winner.

The competition is open to all original two- and three-dimensional fine arts. The show will be juried by digital images and slides. The deadline for submissions is January 9, 2008. Digital images may be sent to art@adkinsarboretum.org. Slides or CDs should be accompanied by a SASE. Submissions should include title, medium, and dimensions (maximum of 6 feet in any directions, excluding outdoor sculpture). Artists may submit up to three images; images that do not reflect the show’s theme will not be juried.

The artists of work selected will be contacted by January 22 to submit the original art ready to hang by February 6. Framing should be simple and well constructed. Arrangements to install outdoor sculpture will be discussed with individual artists when their work is selected. There is no fee for the competition, but artists are responsible for shipping costs. Adkins Arboretum reserves the right to refuse any work that does not match the original juried image or fails to meet the show’s guidelines. Selected artists may be considered for future exhibits at the Arboretum.
