Adkins Arboretum Offers Southwestern Garden Tour

From desert landscape to mountain meadows, northern New Mexico offers incredible scenery, a diversity of plant life and incredible culture. Join a five-day excursion to the Land of Enchantment on Adkins Arboretum's A Tour to Discover Nature and Gardens of New Mexico, July 13-19.

The tour includes visits to both Albuquerque and Santa Fe, with exploration of Rio Grande Botanic Garden and Rio Grande Nature Center State Park, Albuquerque's Old Town, Bandelier National Monument, the Pecos Wilderness, several private gardens, the Santa Fe Botanic Garden's unique Leonora Curtin Wetland Preserve, and other destinations. Participants will have opportunities to visit museums, shops, and galleries in both cities, as well as dine in some of the region's best restaurants.

Sylvan Kaufman, ecologist and Adkins Arboretum consulting scientist, will lead the tour. A part-time Eastern Shore and Santa Fe resident, she will share her passion for the landscapes and plants of the Southwest. Local guides will lead informative and entertaining tours of parks and gardens.

The tour fee of $1,600 per person, double occupancy, includes six nights' lodging, breakfasts, most lunches, two dinners, transportation within New Mexico, and all admission and fees for tour stops. Adkins Arboretum is a 400-acre native garden and preserve at the headwaters of the Tuckahoe Creek in Caroline County. Open year round, the Arboretum offers educational programs for all ages about nature and gardening. Through its Campaign to Build a Green Legacy, the Arboretum will build a new LEED-certified Arboretum Center and entranceway to broaden educational offerings and research initiatives promoting best practices in conservation and land stewardship.
