FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (RIDGELY, MD—MARCH 20, 2008)

ADKINS ARBORETUM OFFERS JOURNAL WRITING WITH NATURE SERIES

Discover nature through art and words in Adkins Arboretum’s Journal Writing with Nature Series, a unique three-part workshop that allows participants to associate with nature, unleash the imagination, and take paper to pen to let their words flow.

The series commences with a bookmaking session on Wednesday, April 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join local artist Sue Stockman to use collage and other techniques to make a handbound book for nature journaling. Materials are provided; participants should bring lunch.

Eastern Shore poet and writer Erica Weick will lead journaling sessions on Wednesday, May 7 and Wednesday, June 4 from 9 a.m. to noon. Learn to explore your association with nature and learn fun ways to see spring with all the senses. Participants will walk in the forest, listen, take notice and write. These workshops offer the opportunity for guided introspection and nature observation, as well as much writing. Both new and experienced writers are welcome, as are those who express themselves through drawing or music. Sharing is optional.

The three-part series is $65 for Arboretum members and $75 for the general public. The bookmaking workshop is $35 for members and $40 for the general public. Journal writing sessions are $15 each for members and $18 each for the general public. Call 410-634-2847, ext. 0 to register.

Adkins Arboretum is a 400-acre native garden and preserve at the headwaters of the Tuckahoe Creek in Caroline County. Open year round, the Arboretum offers educational programs for all ages about nature and gardening. Through its Campaign to Build a Green Legacy, the Arboretum will build a new LEED-certified Arboretum Center and entranceway to broaden educational offerings and research initiatives promoting best practices in conservation and land stewardship. For additional information about Arboretum programs, visit www.adkinsarboretum.org or call 410-634-2847, ext. 0.
