CARMEAN APPOINTED AS ARBORETUM CAMPAIGN CHAIR
Adkins Arboretum announces the appointment of Arboretum Trustee Kathy Carmean of Ridgely as chair of the Arboretum’s first capital campaign to build a new visitor’s center—The Campaign to Build a Green Legacy. Joining the Board in 1997, Carmean is a longtime Arboretum supporter. She also is active in the Caroline County Farm Bureau, the Wye Mills Homemakers, Caroline County Garden Club and the Friends of Caroline County Library.
Of Carmean’s commitment of the Arboretum, Executive Director Ellie Altman commented, “Kathy is a passionate ambassador for the Arboretum. She has worked tirelessly to help the Arboretum achieve its vision as a community and education center, as well as a centerpiece for the Eastern Shore’s tourism industry.”
Adkins Arboretum is a 400-acre native garden and preserve at the headwaters of the Tuckahoe Creek in Caroline County. Open year round, the Arboretum offers educational programs for all ages about nature and gardening. Through its Campaign to Build a Green Legacy, the Arboretum will build a new LEED-certified Arboretum Center and entranceway to broaden educational offerings and research initiatives promoting best practices in conservation and land stewardship.
